I love traditions. I love that I have a big family of boys and I enjoy making the most of little moments. So when I found this North Pole Breakfast idea on Pinterst I was thrilled!! I immediately sent Cam to the store to purchase hot cocoa and "snow covered" donuts. I had bought the Elf on the Shelf at Target today. I really don't know why I didn't buy it last year, I guess I was just busy taking care of my 3 little tenants :) So I thought the fun breakfast would be a great way to debut Elf on the Shelf......oh how I was wrong!!
When Harper walked into the kitchen this morning he was excited. We usually do something special at home on Fridays. I like to spend quality time with my big pre-k boy and unwind from his school filled week. I guess he just thought we were going to have a Christmas themed day. So I read him his letter and the book. He was underwhelmed. All he cared about was the donuts and hot cocoa. Well I tried to get him to name the elf and reiterated that we can't touch him etc.... He was clearly not interested so I went on with my morning routine and fed the babies their cereal. Well out of no where Harper starts telling me that I am a liar...i bought all of this at the store, the elf is not real, that he saw the movie Elf and this elf is too small, then he proceeds to touch the elf and throw him on the ground, says I am not telling the truth. I wish candid camera was at my house because hello jackal and hyde!!! His whole demeanor changed. Cam and I were giving each other looks and whispering under our breath. I was just keeping my fingers crossed that this wasn't going to blow the whole Santa thing!!
I made a post of Facebook and immediately my friend Jenna came to my rescue. Her daughter called Harper and explained that her elf was magical and flew to a different place in her house while she was sleeping only to report back to Santa each night and tell him if you were naughty or nice. He started to get a little bit calmer. Harper is easily swayed by his peers....
I honestly have to laugh at this whole ordeal. I am such a little Sherlock Holmes. I am never surprised. ever. Not sure that anyone has ever surprised me. I fake it. Oh I am good at that. I somehow always put two and two together. I even knew when I was getting engaged. Seriously? So really this doesn't surprise me that Harper didn't go along with this. He is SO my son..
I decided to just avoid the subject for the rest of the day. Hopefully Henry the Elf will do something to win Harper over tomorrow. Stay tuned........

| When I wasn't looking Harper ran into the pantry and hid a starburst. He said, "Hey Mom, look the Elf left me a Starburst too." |
| If Harper won't believe, at least I have 3 more that might. The odds are in my favor :) |
I hope when you're all grown up one day, you'll look back on our family's quirky traditions and they will warm your heart.....
